This is particularly true as IT goes through a major paradigm shift, as it does every 10 or so years. Mainframe gave way to client server, which then ushered in the web. Now we have Cloud, Social and Mobile together. As I discussed in an earlier blog – is this The Perfect Storm?
So we are at a time where past indicators are not good predictors of the future. Tricky for business leaders. Frothy valuations for technology companies. Challenging for CIOs.
This is where the analysts like Gartner and Forrester should earn their crust. Helping business leaders make better decisions. But are they still predicting the future by looking at the past whilst listening to their Dark Side of the Moon LP by Pink Floyd and longing for a better, more predictable yesterday?
